Record Chinese, US & Indian tourists

18 Apr 18. A record 1,398,800 Chinese tourists travelled to Australia over the year to February, up by 12.5%.

Consumer Confidence

11 Apr 18. The Westpac/Melbourne Institute survey of consumer sentiment index fell by 0.6% to 102.4 points in April, down from 103.0 points in March. The index is above its long-term average of 101.5 points.

Credit card balances at 2.5 year highs

12 Apr 18. The average credit card balance rose by $94.10 to $3,180.70 in February – the largest increase in 2.5 years.

Young people back in the job market

19 April 18. March employment rose by 4,900 after a revised fall of 6,300 in Feb (prev. 17,500 rise). Full-time jobs fell by 19,900 while part-time jobs rose by 24,800.

Loans for renovations at 3-year lows

16 Apr 18. Loans for home renovations have declined. Lending for alterations and additions fell from $377.3m in January to $337m in February. 

RBA confirms resilient financial system

13 Apr 2018. The RBA has handed down the latest review of the financial system.

China data beats forecasts

17 Apr 18. The Chinese economy grew at an annual rate of 6.8% in the March quarter.
