Beware of Fraudulent Customer Communications by email, phone and SMS

CommSec and Commonwealth Bank of Australia customers should be aware of receiving fraudulent emails, automated phone calls and SMS text messages from deceptive and unknown sources pretending to be the Commonwealth Bank of Australia requesting their account details. This includes any unsolicited contact from unknown sources claiming that CommSec or the Commonwealth Bank have provided them your contact details.

CommSec does not send emails requesting you to confirm, update or disclose your confidential information via any channel other than securely through logging into your account(s) at or by contacting us on 13 15 19.

Be Aware

The best protection is awareness. Please be mindful of the potential threat of hoax emails, and now telephone and SMS scams. You should remain vigilant and remember if an offer seems too good to be true, then it probably is.

Some things to look out for are:

  • Email requests for private information or to collect prizes/rewards
  • Poor grammar and punctuation
  • Foreign voice recordings
  • Unusual or unrecognisable email or phone details
  • Embedded Web Links or email addresses that are clickable
  • Claims CommSec or the Commonwealth Bank have provided them your contact details.

What should you do if you think you've been contacted by a fraudulent party?

If you think you've received an email, a call or SMS from someone purporting to be from the CommSec or Commonwealth Bank of Australia that you are unsure about, please do not disclose your account details. Contact CommSec on 13 15 19 or your nearest branch, Relationship Manager, or CBA customer service on 13 22 21.

If you're still unsure you can email the Commonwealth Bank at or visit the CBA Security Centre.
