What is Cboe Australia?

Cboe Australia Pty Ltd ('Cboe Australia') is an ASIC-regulated alternative trade execution venue to the ASX which uses its own trading system and provides trading in both ASX listed securities and Cboe Australia only listed investment products.

On average, over $1.5bn in cash equities is traded on Cboe daily, making up about 20% of the total Australian equity trading volume.

Cboe trades continuously between 10am-4:13pm (Sydney) from Monday to Friday, and operates an opening and closing auction on their uniquely listed products only. Visit www.cboe.com.au to learn more.

What is the difference between Cboe and the ASX?

Cboe is an alternative trading exchange to the ASX. Both exchanges allow you to buy or sell the same ASX-listed stocks and funds. The process by which stock is purchased is the same. However:

  • Cboe has unique exchange traded funds (ETFs) that are not available on the ASX. A list of these Funds can be found here.
  • Cboe is a day-only trading exchange for ASX listed corporates, meaning orders cannot be left overnight. This may make it faster to execute orders compared to the ASX, as there can be less backlog of other orders to compete with.

All trades that execute on Cboe Australia still settle and clear through CHESS and are held alongside all your other Australian investments on your existing broker HIN.
